I am Winnie (Wen) Chen, a watercolor artist based in Toronto, and nature is at the heart of my work. Landscapes, wildlife, and the subtle traces of human presence in natural environments inspire me deeply. With a background in industrial design, I approach each painting with attention to composition, structure, and visual balance, but I also embrace the unpredictability and fluidity of watercolor.

After immigrating to Canada, I found endless inspiration in the country’s changing seasons and varied landscapes. I use layered washes and softened edges to capture fleeting moments-soft light, shifting seasons, and the quiet calm that settles over familiar places. Rather than focusing on precise detail, I aim to evoke mood, atmosphere, and stillness, inviting viewers to pause and reflect on the relationship between nature and the built world, and how time, weather, and seasons transform spaces into places of memory and quiet connection.
